Professional Experience:

John Kells is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina and Virginia, and a registered Structural Engineer (SE) in Illinois. He has attained the distinction of Model Law Structural Engineer (MLSE) as designated by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. John has over 8 years of experience in structural engineering design, investigation, and drafting for buildings and specialty structures.

Since joining Fleming and Associates in 2009, John has been the Engineer of Record or lead design engineer for a broad range of structural projects. Facility types include: education, religious, commercial, industrial, municipal, wastewater, military (including Anti-Terrorism/Force-Protection design), and residential. John has also performed forensic work including assessments of commercial and residential structures following settlement, fire, explosion, and tornado damage. He has a particular interest in stabilizing and renovating historical structures and has worked on multiple projects in historic downtown Fayetteville.

Prior to joining Fleming and Associates, John was the Residential Division Manager and a licensed General Contractor at Tower Engineering Professionals, Inc. in Raleigh, NC. At Tower Engineering, he gained experience in all aspects of residential design and construction while completing more than 400 projects for over a four year period.

Interesting Fact: Both John and his wife Lacy grew up Fayetteville, where they met in the 5th grade. Both of their extended families still live in town and enjoy trying to spend as much time with John and Lacy’s son as possible.
