Fleming & Associates was hired as the prime consultant to design a roof replacement for the Johnston Community College Health Sciences Building. The existing insulation and coverboard was determined to be dry so the existing EPDM material was removed with care given to not damage the existing coverboard and insulation. A new single ply thermoplastic membrane was mechanically fastened to the existing system. A small portion of lower roof canopy was a total tear-off and re-roof consisted of 5/8” type-X gypsum board, tapered polyisocyanurate insulation, ¼” coverboard and a single-ply thermoplastic membrane. The project was completed ahead of schedule and within the design budget of $230,700 or $7.80 per square foot for the 29,366 sq. ft. facility.
