Supported by galvanized steel cables, the tapered beam frames extend 41 feet over a concrete stage. Our office worked closely with the design team to achieve the aesthetics and function that was desired for the pavilion. The canopy, requiring the most attention to detail, was coordinated with the electrical engineer to conceal the conduit as much as possible. Each canopy frame line consists of 2 tapered beams that were shop welded together and then slid over the columns in the field. During fabrication of the tapered beams and the 45 feet tall columns that were also shop welded together, Steve Fleming visited the fabrication shop to discuss the importance of the structural welds and to observe the quality of the work for architecturally exposed steel.
