The rainfall from Hurricane Florence caused significant soil settling and created earthen shear (failure) planes within the cemetery. Fleming and Associates, PA consulted for WK Dickson & Co., Inc. on the design and installation of a 500 LF sheet pile wall with grouted tieback anchors that provide resistance to soil movement and erosion at Cemetery. During construction of the project we provided full time jobsite observation of the steel sheet pile and grouted tieback tendon installation for a period of almost seven months. The project was awarded a 2023 Engineering Excellence Honors Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies of North Carolina.
